Lyric of the Week

Artist: Florence and the Machine
Song: Cosmic Love
Interesting/Smart Lyrics:  And in the dark, I can hear your heartbeat/ I tried to find the sound/ But then it stopped, and I was in the darkness,/So darkness I became/ The stars, the moon, they have all been blown out/ You left me in the dark/No dawn, no day, I'm always in this twilight/In the shadow of your heart

Oh Florence. Your songs are like poetry. I always find something interesting in them. Honestly this is one of the most beautiful and powerful songs ever. It is definitely my favorite song off of the entire album My Lungs. The first time I heard these lyrics I actually became teary eyed. These lyrics describe a person who has been left heartbroken. Haven’t we all be heartbroken at one time in our lives. I can definitely identify with this song. I have felt that never ending pit of darkness and despair to the point where you feel  like you are trapped in some sort of limbo and will never be able to live normally again. It is funny because I read that Florence had the worst hangover ever when she came up with this song and it took her only a half hour to create this entire masterpiece. It makes me wonder how much of this song is relating to alcohol. The video is pretty bizarre and trippy, like her other famous video for The Dog Days Are Over. Yet that doesn’t detract from this amazing bit of poetry at all.
