Lyric of the Week

Artist: Eminem and Rhianna

Smart Lyrics: “You don't get another chance/ Life is no Nintendo game/ But you lied again/ Now you get to watch her leave/ Out the window/ Guess that's why they call it window pane”

I love this lyric and look forward to it every single time I hear this amazing rap song. I honestly couldn’t wait for Eminem’s most recent album “Recovery.” I expect great things from Em because I think he is one of the greatest rappers of my generation. I like this lyric a lot because of the smart play on words. Em’s introspective song about an abusive relationship is great to listen to, in general, because of all of its cleverly worded lyrics. For example he says “Maybe that’s what happens when a tornado meets a volcano,” which clearly expressive the volatile and explosive nature of these two individuals in their doomed relationship. However the fact that Eminem uses the words window pane to express window “pain” is really smart and interesting to me. I also like how he says that he doesn’t get multiple chances to prove himself, much like in a Nintendo Game. I am always impressed with his ability to take something hard to discuss and meaningful to him (see Stan) and turn it into a lyrical/rhythmic master class. Good job Em.

  1. That song is incredible, so forceful and provocative. And the lyrics are part of what makes it so strong. I don't usually love Rhianna's voice, but she sounds great here.

Another awesome line in the song: "Maybe that's what happens when a tornado meets a volcano."
